First Foot Forward!
This is the first post in my new Blog!! I’ve never been much of a writer! However, since I was appointed a Local Area Representative by Uachtaráin Fhianna Fáil Micheál Martin TD. I wanted to share with you my story on how I got here, and I hope that you follow me on my journey.
I am the first member of my family to have gotten this far in politics. Although my family voted Fianna Fáil we were never known as a huge Fianna Fáil family. I first got involved in Fianna Fáil in UCC on Societies Day in 2008 – I joined the UCC Donogh O’Malley Cumann. The look on my parents face when I told them I joined Fianna Fáil was of shock!! Just a little under two years later I was elected the Chairperson of the Cumann 2010/2011. During my tenure as Chair huge changes took place – the IMF came in and Fianna Fáil had a disastrous General Election.
I have held positions with national Ogra as well as the Societies Executive in UCC. I am also involved in local charities on top of my work for Fianna Fáil.
In late July/ early August I was appointed a Local Area Rep, at 22 years of age, I am the youngest in country.
Since that time I am working on the ground and attempting to raise awareness of local issues and bring forward credible solutions. Whether sending out press releases, meeting with local community groups, setting up this website, or having my picture taken for the canvass leaflets! It has been all go!
I will try and update this notes section to track my journey – so I hope you enjoy the read! Any questions/comments please don’t hesitate!
Cheers
Brendan
